Members were saddened recently by the death of 39-year member Marvin Zerden.

Sympathy is expressed to Elaine and other members of the Zerden family.

Recent Programs

Park in Hickory. Bill Barkley was seen to be in appropriate control supervising the cooking of the hamburgers and hot dogs. A decent-sized crowd attended, especially considering the drizzly conditions that were prevalent earlier in the day.

September 23– Julia Deans, Administrative Director of the Suzuki School of Arts spoke about the school and its programs. Most people think of children playing small violins when they hear the name Suzuki, but the Hickory school also instructs children and adults on viola, cello, flute, piano and guitar. There are 7 teachers giving classes at St. Luke’s UMC to students from the age of 3 to senior citizen. There are 8 sizes of violins to fit the different ages and various sizes of the other instruments as well. The school has been in business in Hickory for 25 years.

Announcements

Bruce Blackburn fell and suffered a broken arm.

Charles Dixon’s wife, Dot ,has returned home after a lengthy stay in the hospital.

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Circle K has 16 members at present with hopes of reaching their goal of more than 20.

The Hickory High School Key Club has a number of on-going activities including a canned food drive on the 14th of October, Unicef boxes and a buddy program with Longview School.
