Young of the Hickory Police Department gave a presentation on
gangs, their history, colors, etc. and their members in Hickory.
There are approximately 100 targeted members in the city.
November 11– Richard Eller, Chair of the Social Science
Department at CVCC, and author (The Tarheel Lincoln: North Carolina
Origins of "honest" Abe Lincoln by Jerry & Richard Eller (Paperback
- 2003) , The Tarheel Lincoln by Jerry Goodnight and Richard Eller,
and Piedmont Airlines: A Complete History, 1948-1989 by Richard E.
Eller) spoke on some aspects of his research that resulted in his
books. The theory that Abraham Lincoln was illegitimate and born in
North Carolina has not been proven but there seems to be substantial
evidence for it. The Piedmont Airlines history is Professor Eller’s
latest book. The books are available at Amazon.
November 18– Steve
Miller, Supervisor of the Street Department of the City of
Hickory and administrator of the Adopt-A-Street program told about
this new program. It is separate from the effort to clean the main

litter-free for a number of years}. The city is making a major
effort to get organizations or individuals to take care of the other

as needed. Steve is a native of this area, graduating from
Fred T. Foard High School and Appalachian State.
